First Day of School

First Day of School for OASD Students - Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!

Special Start Dates: The first day of the 2023-2024 school year is Friday, September 1. The following schools/programs have unique start dates - with students attending the first day of school as detailed.



  • Kindergarteners: For the 2023-2024 school year, there will be two different start days (first day of school) for all OASD kindergarteners - Friday, September 1 OR Tuesday, September 5. All kindergarteners will attend their second day of school on Wednesday, September 6. This Kindergarten Staggered Start will help kindergarteners learn routines in a small group setting. Families were notified of their child’s assigned start day by their school. Families should contact their kindergartener's school office with any questions.   • Pre-kindergarteners: For the 2023-2024 school year, pre-kindergarteners will start school on Tuesday, September 5. Friday, September 1 is being used for pre-kindergartener Get-to-Know-Your Conferences. Information about scheduling pre-kindergarten Get-to-Know-You Conference was shared via Infinite Campus (IC) and email by the Office of Early Learning on August 9.


  • Vel Phillips Middle School: Vel Phillips grade 8 students will attend their first day of school on Friday, September 1, 2023. Vel Phillips grade 6 and 7 students will attend their first day of school on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. The staggered start will allow staff to slowly help students adjust to the new building and routines, and provide the oldest students with time to model school routines and support younger students during their first day of school. Additional information was shared with families via emails and announcements from the school.
